One hundred years and more than 60,000 TRREB Members later – strong community leadership through volunteer work remains. For National Volunteer Week, we’re giving a nod to our past and celebrating the positive change that happens when our Members come together.

Since TRREB’s humble beginnings, Members have played an impactful role in the communities they serve by not only helping individuals and families achieve their homeownership dreams, but also by giving back through volunteer work and donating to charitable organizations.

It’s no question that TRREB Members know what it takes to build a healthy community – one being a supporter of food drives. Back in 1993,  our Members were at the forefront of collecting meals for those in need.

But, let’s fast forward to Feed Tomorrow . TRREB Members took part in raising awareness about child hunger and the need for student nutrition. It was a team effort, where Members annually volunteered over 32,000 hours at 16 schools, seeing student breakfast programs in action as they helped cook and serve food on behalf of the Toronto Foundation for Student Success Feeding Our Future.

And, opening doors isn’t just at property showings for TRREB Members. Hard hats and hammers were out for Build Days . And, the outcome? The construction of Habitat for Humanity homes and ownership dreams achieved for deserving families.

Since 2008, TRREB has donated over $5M to the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation , through our Members’ ongoing support of the $1 per Member per Month campaign. At 60,000 plus Members – the impact is huge. Each year, over one hundred shelter-based charities across the GTA have received funding that helps put a roof over heads and feed our most vulnerable members of society.

Our Members continue to give back to charitable organizations even in an environment that restricts in-person interaction. Without the support of TRREB Members, we wouldn’t be able to hit a fundraising record  during a time when our communities needed it most.

In July, TRREB will begin inviting shelter-based charities to submit grant applications  to assist with vital resources for people in need.
